One specific game included in March’s PlayStation Plus Monthly Games subscription is getting a bit of a mixed reception from the community, and I bet you can probably figure out what that game is before reading the next sentence.
That’s right, it’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Although the game received generally positive reviews and is a AAA title that’s less than six months old, a lot of people were quick to dismiss the game when it was announced for PlayStation Plus last month.
But now that players have had a couple of weeks to try it out for themselves instead of taking the naysayers' word as gospel, what’s the general consensus?

Well, it seems most users in a thread discussing the game over on the r/PS5 subreddit have come to the conclusion that, while not incredible, it’s a lot better than they expected.
“I thought the hate was a bit overblown and zoomed in on a couple of things to justify,” commented user Sorcerious.
“It's a good game, not stellar but just good. The kind of game you'd pick up on sale, play and then would say 'now that was enjoyable!' and then forget about it the next week.”
“It's a mixed bag. For example, the art style is excellent, but some character designs are goofy. The story itself is interesting, but the people in it are one-dimensional,” replied user Beauvoir_R.

“Overall, it is better than what I have come to expect from most AAA games in recent years. It isn't a game everyone needs to try, but while it is free, they should, and I don't understand why it got such a bad rap.”
Honestly, I think the comments in the thread are a lot more levelheaded than I expected.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard found itself in a bit of an odd spot upon release, because it was an easy target for culture war nonsense.
That led a lot of people to dismiss it entirely without actually playing the game, but I also think it may have inspired some people to overinflate its quality as a way to balance things out.

It’s a fun game with some glaring issues, neither a 3 out of 10 or a 10 out of 10. And that’s ok. Not every game can be Baldur’s Gate 3.
