PlayStation Plus is a wonderful thing. The same goes for all streaming services. You just never know what wonders you’re going to discover. A game that you’d perhaps never considered playing can quickly become an all-time favourite.
That being said, it can often be hard to know where to start as there are new titles joining every single month. Last week, Foamstars, Steelrising, and Rollerdrome all launched on the essential tier, with the latest PlayStation Plus extra and premium additions due to be unveiled this coming Wednesday. While I can recommend Foamstars if you’re after a light dose of silly fun with friends, that’s not the game I’m here to recommend to you today. If you’re a member of the extra tier and you happen to enjoy the action-adventure genre, I strongly urge you to check out Outer Wilds.
Take a look at Outer Wilds in action below.
Developed by Mobius Digital, Outer Wilds launched in 2019. The game sees players stuck within a 22-minute time loop on a mysterious planet. As you explore, you’ll discover various secrets which should help you uncover exactly what’s going on. It’s best that I don’t say anything more than that. I wouldn’t want to ruin the fun.

What I can confirm though is that Outer Wilds has a very respectable score of 85 over on Metacritic, with a user score of 8.7. Slant Magazine awarded a perfect 10, saying, “This is a rare adventure game in which the journey is actually more of a reward than the destination,” while GameSpot added, “By letting you chart your own course and piece together its mystery at your own pace, Outer Wilds makes each of its expeditions feel incredibly personal and absolutely unmissable.”
Awarding a score of nine, TheSixthAxis wrote, “At its core, Outer Wilds is a game about exploration, knowledge and experimentation. It's the sum of all those parts and more, perfectly blending them together to create one of the most fascinating games of this generation. Outer Wilds proves a micro - as opposed to a macro - take on space exploration works just as well, if not better.” Surely that’s enough praise to sway you to give Outer Wilds a go?
If you’re not a PlayStation Plus subscriber, the game is on sale for £11.99 on the PlayStation Store until 14 February. It’s included for free in PS Plus’ extra tier.
