PlayStation gamers can check out 2024 game free now, no PS Plus needed

PlayStation gamers can currently enjoy a free demo of upcoming horror shooter Sker Ritual.

Sker Ritual is finally departing early access in April. The PC round-based zombie survival first-person shooter will soon be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S - in addition to PC - and it’s got a shiny brand new demo for you to enjoy.

If you’re unfamiliar with Sker Ritual, it comes from Maid of Sker and Ten Dates creator Wales Interactive. Playable either solo or in co-op, the game essentially tasks you with shooting your way through several “high-octane” rounds as you make use of steampunk weapons and “Celtic god powers” in order to try and survive the onslaught of the equally eerie and mysterious Quiet Ones. If you’ve played Maid of Sker, you’ll likely remember the Quiet Ones as Sker Ritual is a spin-off title. That being said, it can be enjoyed as a standalone project.

Take a look at Sker Ritual in action below.

As I mentioned, a free demo is available now across all release platforms, including PlayStation 5 - and no, you don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to get involved. Sker Ritual will feature both familiar and new enemies, a variety of upgradable steampunk inspired weapons, “interchangeable spine-chilling masks”, and a story written by those behind Maid of Sker, Battlefield 1, and Total War: Rome II - three great titles.

If you do want to play with friends, co-op supports up to four people. When you kill enemies, you’ll want to keep an eye out for ‘miracles’. These miracle drops are what you’ll use to upgrade or buff your skills. Each ‘miracle’ is linked to a Celtic god, attributing an element of their power to you.

As I mentioned, Sker Ritual has been in early access for quite some time, garnering a very respectable recent review score of 90% over on Steam. “If you like CoD Zombies, you’ll likely like this,” wrote one user, while another added, “Great mindless fun. Drawing on its clear inspirations of CoD Zombies and Hades.” Well, I know I’m tempted to give it a whirl.
