PlayStation gamers have been urged to spend reward points before they miss out on buying free store credit.
PlayStation Stars is a Sony rewards scheme that was first introduced in September 2022 that gives players points that can be redeemed towards free store credit, select games and DLC as well as digital collectables to display on the PlayStation mobile app profile.

To take part in PlayStation Stars, all you have to do is sign up for the scheme for free and have the PlayStation mobile app downloaded on your phone. Then, you’re pretty much good to go.

PlayStation gamers will then be able to earn reward points for completing easy campaigns, which often require firing up a PS Plus game or earning a specific trophy. You’ll also earn points by making purchases on the PlayStation Store.
Until recently, you were able to earn PS Stars points for renewing or purchasing a new PlayStation Plus subscription but Sony has sadly removed that function.
Another controversial change that Sony has made is the duration in which PlayStation Stars points will expire. Previously, they would remain in your account until you decided to spend them
Now, give or take, they will expire a year after the points have been acquired, which unless you knew about the change Sony has made, PlayStation gamers might lose reward points without even knowing.

“When you finally get those 200 points... just to see them expire,” said Redditor hosdiori, alluding to recently expired points. “Oh, the sweet taste of earning points for months… only to realise they’ve got a shelf life shorter than a bag of chips.”

Sure, the comparison using the shelf-life of a bag of chips is a big exaggeration, but I get the point that this Redditor is trying to make.
“Points expire at the end of the month you earned them, plus 12 months. So for example, if I earned 100 points on 3 January 2025, they will expire on 31 January 31 2026,” Ashamed_Leader_3511 clarified.
To be fair, despite many not appreciating that Sony reduced the expiry date of how long your reward points will be available, it’s still long enough to make use of them.
If you fall just short of being able to acquire £10 credit, spend it on something else, even if it’s for the sake of it. After all, something is better than nothing, in my opinion.

To check when your points will expire, press on your PS Stars level at the top of the mobile app. Then at the top of the new screen, press on your level again (which shows points). Now, press on points (next to overview) and here is where you’ll see when your points expire.
