PlayStation gamers urged to grab free store credit before it's gone

PlayStation gamers urged to grab free store credit before it's gone

Be quick

Nothing lasts forever, and that unfortunately includes opportunities to claim and spend free store credit.

For those who might not be aware, PlayStation currently runs a loyalty scheme that, among other things, allows you to accumulate points that can be exchanged for free store credit.

It really is money for pretty much nothing, although the exchange rate of points to actual store credit is so low that you'll likely be tempted to hold on and save up loads of points over a long time so you can buy a £70 game on launch day or something.

Unfortunately it would seem Sony has factored this in. What a lot of people don't actually know is that your Stars points will now expire after 12 months.

The upshot of this is that if you were trying to save for something specific, you'll either have to be quick or be realistic about what you can actually get within a 12-month period.

It's worth noting this change was only relatively recently introduced by PlayStation, and fans are still finding out about it - and being rightly ticked off.

"It definitely sucks because I already thought that the rewards weren't that great for purchasing games and especially redeeming the PS Plus games," one fan wrote on Reddit.

"But it's so ridiculous that they expire after only a year where you could maybe get a $5 reward once a year. It also hurts me a bit more as a physical collector, because I have bought games like Astro Bot and Spider-Man, but because I get them physically I don't get the extra points."

Another pointed out: "The whole system is to make it seem they are giving away free money by spending money."

Basically, then, use your points while you can and take the little wins where you can if you want to get the most out of this system.
