PlayStation Announces Major Shutdown and One Last Sale

Grab it while you can

PlayStation has announced a major shutdown of one of its stores, and its holding one last sale to commemorate it.

In addition to consoles and video games, PlayStation also sells a decent amount of merchandise.

Considering the brand’s 30-year history, there’s far too much iconic imagery here for it to go to waste, hence why you can buy clothing, accessories, and collectibles all sporting images from Sony’s most iconic franchises.

However, Sony has now revealed that PlayStation Gear, the brand’s official merchandise store, will be shutting down on 31st December, 2025. As the notice at the top of the website reads:

“Thanks for visiting PlayStation™Gear Store. This site will be closing December 31st. Our Customer Service team will still be here and happy to help regarding your order. All sales are final.”

It’s unknown if this means a new, rebranded PlayStation merchandise store will take its place following the shutdown, or if Sony will instead continue to sell merchandise by licensing it out to third-party retailers.

On the other hand, there does appear to be a sale currently ongoing on PlayStation Gear, with various themed items across God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank included in the sale.

It doesn’t look like the sale is related to the impending shutdown. But items featured in the sale include t-shirts, hats, jackets, hoodies, stationery, water bottles, and glasses. So, be sure to check it out if you fancy grabbing a new piece of PlayStation merch.

PlayStation Gear was originally launched in 2015, originally sporting items for games released during the late PS3 and early PS4 era. At the time, it included items from The Last of Us, The Order: 1886, and Infamous: Second Son, if that wasn’t enough of a time capsule for you.

In other related PlayStation news, you can now grab three new titles as part of the monthly offering of games on PlayStation Plus Essential. Subscribers can now add Alan Wake 2, Cocoon, and Goat Simulator 3 to their libraries, and will be able to play them for as long as they stay subscribed to the service.

Meanwhile, Sony has also cancelled some shows for PlayStation: The Concert.

The music festival featured soundtracks from its various games was due to tour across Europe and the United States throughout the year, though some ticket holders have reported that shows they were due to attend have been cancelled.
