PlayStation Plus' Best-Looking Game Yet Leaves Users In Awe

Truly new-gen

PlayStation Plus free game line-ups can hugely vary in quality from one month to the next.

Lately, however, Sony has been ticking all of the right boxes.

This month, Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon joined the essential tier meaning they’re available to all PlayStation Plus subscribers; yours to keep forever as long as you remain a subscriber.

The next extra and premium tier additions should then be announced on Wednesday 15 October to arrive the following Tuesday.

Already, leaker billbil-kun has teased that 2024’s Silent Hill 2 remake will be one of the headline titles.

I’m sure you can see why I’m of the opinion that PlayStation Plus is killing it.

For many subscribers, the standout title at the moment is the aforementioned Alan Wake 2 which has left many players in awe.

“Is Alan Wake 2 the best looking game on PS Plus as of 2025?” asked Reddit user Delicious_Maize9656.

“I’ve been playing it on my PS5 and the graphics are insanely realistic. In some scenes, it almost looks like real life,” they continued.

“In this game you can notice the generational change perfectly,” replied p_rodriguer.

“Literally just started it too, and I was saying that to myself too. The scene with the officer standing by the gate, he looks so damn real,” added heavy_Raccoon318.

“It's probably the best looking game I've played this generation on console,” declared nise8446.

The main question that I’m imagining surrounds Alan Wake 2 is this: do I need to have played the original Alan Wake?

Personally, my answer is no you don’t.

It’s perhaps best if you have a light grasp on who Alan Wake is as a character but that should see you through this sequel as it’s a brand new mystery.

Of course, there’s no harm in playing the original first but neither is there a great harm in missing it out if you simply want to dive into this much hyped follow-up.

In our review of Alan Wake 2, we awarded the game a score of nine, writing, “Alan Wake 2 is not only one of the best games of 2023 but it also surpasses the 2010 original in almost every way. It does everything you’d want from a sequel. Alan Wake 2 looks better, it plays better, it sounds better and it brings scares in abundance.”

Make sure you add it to your library before it departs next month.
