As this console generation continues, many have their eyes on the horizon in the hopes of spotting some news on the next batch of consoles.
Recently, rumours have begun swirling on the upcoming PlayStation 6, with some fans overjoyed at news of the future, and some thinking it’s far too soon.

This has been somewhat confirmed by Sony’s Mark Cerny in an interview with Digital Foundry.
In the discussion, Cerny stated that Sony has been learning about AI support and machine learning through the PS5 Pro and its AI upscaler PSSR.
Over on Reddit, fans are saying they called it.
The creator of the thread summed it up, saying, “The PS5 Pro is basically a prototype PS6, where Sony can test and perfecting PSSR and other tech they want to use in the next PlayStation.”

“As this subreddit has been saying since day one. Surprise,” commented LCHMD.
Another user replies, “We knew this, but nice. Make PS6 a beast with a refined PSSR.”
Using current consoles to research and showcase upcoming technology is no surprise, and practically every console since the dawn of the industry has made strides in hardware by refining what came before.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is a powerful beast, and the future of upscaling and machine learning has to start somewhere.

The PlayStation 6 is only going to continue building upon this foundation.
One comment says much the same - “As with every previous iteration of any technological device, in relation to the next iteration. What's the news here?”
The future of PlayStation is looking bright, and Sony has got their next console prepped.
