With rumours of the PlayStation 6 swirling online and many gamers excited to see the next-gen of Sony units, a recent report by an industry insider may just throw a spanner in the works.
It appears as though the next generation is on the horizon for both the PlayStation 6 and next Xbox console and although it is considered too soon by many players, that is seemingly not slowing down Sony and Microsoft. However, a recent insider report reveals that these consoles might be a lot more expensive than we first thought.

This news comes courtesy of leaker and insider Kepler_L2 who revealed that “the days of free cost savings with die shrinks is over.” According to them, both the PS6 and next-gen Xbox will “either have increasingly smaller performance gains or significantly higher prices”.

This conversation ignited after Kepler responded to Sony claiming that a PlayStation 5 cost decrease is “very difficult” as it is “harder to grow profits as the life cycle goes on”. This is a result of the unit parts becoming more and more expensive as the console ages and so a price cut is highly unlikely even four years on.
Additionally, Microsoft has also revealed that its next Xbox unit will see its “largest technical leap” of all time so it will be no surprise if it also comes with an eye-watering price tag. However, both Sony and Microsoft are yet to comment on estimated prices.
In related news, PlayStation 6’s frame rates and specs were recently leaked and it is safe to say that users will be pretty satisfied. With Sony “currently aiming” for a consistent 60fps at 4K rendering and 30fps at 8K rendering on the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro, we can expect the PlayStation 6 to almost double that when it releases sometime in the future.
