The harsh reality of console pricing is alarming gamers as they discuss the worryingly high cost of the PlayStation 6.
Concerns over the eventual price tag of the PlayStation 6 aren't new, however, since the arrival of the PS5 Pro, those worries have intensified.
Launching in November, the new PS5 Pro has a starting cost for UK fans of £699, a figure that soon increases if you take into account hidden costs.

Fancy a new PS5? Check out the 'Chroma Collection'
Although this upcoming release has helped to temporarily decrease the cost of the PS5, with the unveiling of another new console, the price point of this hardware is starting to become the only topic of discussion.
“How on earth are they going to price a PS6?” asked Redditor makomirocket, before breaking down the pricing of Sony’s hardware since the PS4.

“So, the price of a PS5 has increased during its lifespan, and a more powerful PS5 Pro, is launching at an even higher price. In 3-4 years, with the PS5 showing no sign of reducing in price, are they [Sony] going to have to aim for a £999 PlayStation 6?”
It’s a question that we already know the answer to, sadly.
Just take a look at the cost of the PS1 Edition PS5 Pro; its retail price before scalpers took to eBay with inflated prices was £959.99.
It’s fair to point out that limited edition bundles tend to come with a steeper price tags, however, it’s still an eye watering amount that comes with a certain level of foreshadowing.

As another Reddit user pointed out, “PlayStations are becoming more like iPhones.”
This was backed up by someone else who said, “Yes, PlayStation is slowly morphing into an Apple-like prestige brand, and I think this event (and the Pro launch) are important experiments for them to gauge how far they can push pricing and decide how they evolve future offerings.”
It’s an unpleasant thought to think about how much money we’ll need to save to afford the PS6 upon release.
Many gamers will likely wait until its discounted. Though, as we all know, that’s an uncomfortable waiting game.
