The PlayStation 5, through no fault of its own, is being heavily criticised by gamers.
Primarily, the issue lies in how difficult it was to purchase upon its release, with the majority of its games already available on the PS4 further compounding the problem.
Now that it’s been suggested that the PlayStation 6 might be released as early as 2027, fans are dubbing the PS5 the “worst generation of all time”.

Even those who don’t use the PS5 have remarked on how quickly this generation of consoles is being forgotten as we race towards next-gen hardware.
“Maybe it's because I'm on PC, but this life cycle seems too short,” commented @TaichoBeardo.

“Even compared with the issues going on with PC at the moment, I don't think people would get enough meaning out of a new console in the next two years for it to be worth upgrading to.”

Following on from this, another X user, this time @CARNAGENOVA1, thinks that the gap between console releases should be longer, not shorter.
“We’re at a point in console tech now where generations should be taking much longer than previous years [...] the PS6 will massively undersell if it’s released prior to like 2030 honestly,” they said.
Despite the vast majority feeling a similar way, there’s a minority of gamers who feel the backlash the PS5 is receiving in light of this PS6 leak is unfair.
User @notseelen posted, “PS3 was far worse. PS5 has actually been pretty damn good, though a lot of its games melded with ps4 as many were 'updates'.”

The state of the video games industry has long been criticised by industry insiders and fans alike.
Not only are the release dates of consoles coming under fire, but so is the predicted games price hike.
Even though 2025 has many highly anticipated games slated for launch, there’s a lot of uncertainty amongst gamers right now.
