Before you consider buying a PlayStation 5 Pro, you might be interested to learn that the new PS5 update introduces feature fans have been crying out for.
The PlayStation 5 Pro hasn’t received the reception Sony was hoping for.
Although some gamers intend to upgrade their consoles, the majority of people are roasting the new hardware; their primary targets for their anger are performance and price.

Nobody wants to be hit with major hidden costs, so thank goodness then that PlayStation has rolled out a massive feature-packed update for the PS5.
There are a lot of reasons to be enthusiastic about this. However, for a lot of people, it’s the ‘Welcome Hub’ that's going to draw the most interest.

You can find this new addition on the PS5’s home screen. For those of you residing in North America, the new hub has replaced the ‘Explore Hub’.
This “enhancement” brings back some charm the previous consoles had that the PS5 has lacked, specifically being able to customise your home screen.
Maybe it’s wrong of us, but we love themes on our consoles – the moment they were removed, everything went wrong in the world (please don’t take that literally).
But what can you customise? Here’s a brief overview of the new features:
- You can customise the Welcome hub with widgets and backgrounds.
- Widgets display information like storage, battery levels, online friends, and more.
- Widgets can be added, removed, resized, and moved one by one. You can also choose from preset widget layouts based on your preferences.
The full details can be found on the PlayStation blog.

If you can’t see the new hub on your home screen, don’t panic; only a “limited number of users” have received the Welcome Hub in the update.
Once Sony is satisfied that everything is working as it should do, the feature will be released for everyone else in a couple of months.
Delighted as we all are about this dramatic change, we can’t help but wonder why PlayStation didn’t launch the PS5 with the Welcome Hub to begin with. It just makes the most sense.
Still, what’s done is done. At least we’re not far away from all experiencing the joy of being able to customise our consoles one more.
