Keeping up with the costs of our favourite hobby, playing the latest games on the latest machines is never cheap. So if we can save you a few quid on consoles such as the PlayStation 5, then it’s a job well done.
Last year, Sony released the revised model of its PlayStation 5 console dubbed the “slim”. As with its predecessor, the new slim model is available with a disc drive or without. Yet, the new console has a detachable disc drive that you can buy separately. This means should you buy the digital console, you can purchase the disc drive at a later date and connect it to your new PlayStation 5.
Check out the new PlayStation 5 console below!
In terms of size and weight, the new PlayStation 5 disc console weighs roughly 3.2kg which is less than the 4.2kg of the previous model. The new console without the disc drive is also lighter at 2.6kg compared to 3.9kg. The PS5 with disc drive console has dimensions of 358mm x 96mm x 216mm. The console without the disc drive is 358mm x 80mm x 216mm.

However, that is not all, because the new model also has increased internal storage from 825GB to 1TB. That being said, taking into account system files, you’ll be left with about 850GB which is still better than the previous model of just 667GB from its 825GB.
In the UK, the new PlayStation 5 slim console with the detachable disc drive has an RRP of £479. If you want to purchase the console right now, you can take advantage of a massive price drop but you’ll need to act fast to avoid missing out. At the time of writing, retailers Currys and Very are selling this version of the PlayStation 5 for just £409 giving you a nice saving of £70. That saving is enough to purchase an additional new-release video game or even an extra DualSense controller with change to spare.
Naturally, this offer won't last forever, so if you were thinking of picking up a new PlayStation 5 console and if you’re able to, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this offer. The console might likely drop in later sales such as Prime Day or Black Friday, but there’s no time like the present.
