PlayStation 5 owners treated to limited time 30th anniversary surprise

PlayStation 5 owners treated to limited time 30th anniversary surprise

Let's do the time wrap

PlayStation doesn’t always get it right, but when it does, it does it in style.

To mark its 30th anniversary, PlayStation has been pulling out all the stops to help its fans celebrate.

Most noteworthy is the retro styled limited edition PS5 Pro; decorated in the colour scheme and style of the PS1, it’s a thing of beauty for nostalgia chasers.

Of course, such lavish celebratory items aren’t accessible to all.

Fortunately for everyone reading this, the anniversary surprise we speak of is much more attainable.

Out with the old, in with the new. Check out the PS5 Pro trailer below.

A recent update from Sony allows you to customise your PS5 home screen as well as its menus, reminiscent of themes.

In truth, the PS5 technically has a theme in that its style is different from previous console home screens.

However, it doesn’t have that special something that the older generation had.

This update allows you to bring back the past by choosing between PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and, of course, PS5 stylings.

It isn’t just its appearance that changes, the sounds of your console will too.

Upon selecting the PS1 option, you’ll find a layout that reaches into our childhood and gives us a big, warm hug.

You’ll also hear the familiar sounds of that classic era of gaming.

What can I say, I’m a sucker for anything that looks and sounds like the PS1.

Sadly, there is a downside to all of this: this is a limited time deal.

We’re not certain how long exactly, but these themes aren’t set to stick around. Consequently, you’ll want to play around with them thoroughly before they disappear into the night forever.

They might come back, emphasis on the might. Seeing as this is a 30th anniversary special, the likelihood of Sony rolling this feature out permanently is minimal.

This is why you need to make the most of this surprise “gift” for as long as you can.
