Talk of the PlayStation 6 launching in the near future has had gamers worried.

Although everyone is curious about the next-gen console, they’re also worried that it’s launching too soon.

We saw this reaction when Sony revealed that the PlayStation 5 was in the latter stage of its life cycle.

Then with the release of the PS5 Pro, it felt like the end was nigh for the PS5 despite it still being a relatively young piece of hardware.

Fortunately, there’s life in the PS5 yet.

Hideaki Nishino, the joint CEO of Sony, has revealed that the PS5 will live on, much like the PS4.

In an interview with Famitsu, Nishino spoke of how the PS5 “will be around for a long time” before comparing it to the PS4.

Even now, many rely on the PS4, though it’s becoming increasingly difficult as newer titles leave the older console behind.

Collectively, we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we don’t need to pack away our PS5 just yet.

That being said, Nishino revealed that just because Sony is keen for the PS5 to continue to be utilised, doesn’t mean the PS6’s release will be delayed.

They said, “I don’t think it’s right to delay the release of the next product that incorporates new technology because it [PS5] will be around for a long time.”

Nishino added, “I think it is important to provide new things while playing the ones that are currently in operation, and to expand in total.”

Of course, we’ll all longingly stare at the new console – unless it’s “ugly”, then we’ll criticise it mercilessly. However, we’ll be able to rest easy knowing that we don’t need to rush to buy it.

Considering how costly the PS5 Pro is, it’s likely many of us will need to wait for the PS6’s price point to decrease before purchasing it.
