PlayStation 5 gamers praise 'life-changing' hidden setting you probably missed

PlayStation 5 gamers praise 'life-changing' hidden setting you probably missed

When you hear that beep, it’s game on!

A PlayStation 5 system update has been praised for including a life-changing feature. Yes, I know, that is very dramatic to say.

Since its release in November 2020, Sony has been constantly updating the PlayStation 5, evolving it for the better with almost every update.

Most system updates do nothing all that fancy, other than the necessary stability improvements. However, sometimes we get updates that make essential quality-of-life improvements and add new features to the PlayStation 5.

One of the most recent system updates for PlayStation 5 implemented a new and improved Welcome Hub. The update, which was initially only available in North America before rolling out to other regions, lets you customise quick access features such as trophies, game progress, system storage and more.

The new Welcome Hub also allows us to use our screenshots taken from our favourite games to proudly display as a background image for the home screen. It might not be the dynamic themes from years gone by, but it’s the closest we’ll get, for now.

Last year, there was a subtle update that you may have missed which made the PlayStation 5 compatible with Dolby Atmos, but it also brought another helpful feature and that’s the function of turning the start-up beep noise off.

I know this might not seem like a big deal, but when you want a sneaky gaming session at night without waking anyone nearby, turning off that loud beep can become quite handy.

“Great to be able to get rid of that beep for when the family is asleep,” said Redditor Aethernath. “Good. The PS5 has the same beep as our rice cooker,” exclaimed gunghu.

“The beep startles my dog, so that's a win for her and me,” replied a grateful 1ikilledkenny.

To turn the beep off, simply go to your console settings, click ‘System’ and then select ‘Beep Sound’. Job done.
