PlayStation 5 drops shiny free RPG you can download now, no PS Plus needed

A huge RPG for free on PlayStation 5

It’s always a nice surprise when PlayStation drops a new free game in our laps. It happens often, but it never gets old.

It’s even better when that game will give us hundreds of hours of enjoyment.

While you're here, you should absolutely check out our Shadow of the Erdtree review.

HoYoverse is back with a brand new RPG, this time an urban fantasy called Zenless Zone Zero and it’s completely free to play on PlayStation 5, with no need for a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Following on from their monumental releases, Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, this new RPG is more of the same. Brilliant anime-style action with a fully voice-acted story.

It would be remiss of me to not mention the Gacha mechanics at play in the core of Zenless Zone Zero but if you don’t want to spend money, you can still enjoy the story and action by collecting characters via free attempts at unlocking them.

In this new adventure, you play as a Proxy who sends agents into Hollows to investigate threats and solve mysteries of the world.

These agents will be the characters you’ll unlock via the Gacha mechanics and come as people, and probably mechs and animals too, knowing HoYoverse.

When starting, HoYoverse has been kind enough to give players 150 free pulls (attempts at the Gacha) to land a good character, so hopefully you’ll all see an S-tier name drop.

Personally, I’ve been eager to play this for a while as I loved Honkai: Star Rail, but fell behind on character collection early on. So, I’m all in on Zenless Zone Zero.

To play, all you need to do is download the game from the PSN store and get going. You can set up a HoYoverse account if you plan on playing via mobile too, but it’s not needed for the PS5 experience.
