PlayStation 5 gamers have had their hopes of an earlier release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 dashed, in what can only be described as a cruel twist of misinformation.
The problem is, this information came from Sony itself, via the PlayStation app, which is why so many players started to rub their hands together with glee.

According to Push Square, PlayStation app users started to get notifications on 8 August 2023 about a new release date for Baldur’s Gate 3. Email notifications with the subject line: “Baldur’s Gate 3, New launch date, Pre-order now ” also came through several hours later.

Yet Larian Studios, the publisher behind the title, hasn't changed the release date as far as official sources can see. Even if you take into account that there’s, technically, two release dates for the PS5 version, this information is already known to PS players.
The reason there’s two launch dates is due to fans being able to buy the Baldur’s Gate 3 Digital Deluxe Edition, priced at $80, which gives players a 72 hour early access to the game. As a result, some users will be able to launch the game on 2 September instead.
But again, this information is well known, and so there’s a lot of confusion surrounding why Sony has said otherwise. Currently, Sony hasn’t addressed whether this was human error, or simply a poorly worded reminder that early access is available for deluxe version players.
Although we can’t offer any further details as far as what’s gone wrong, we suggest you spare a thought for the poor Xbox players who have no idea when the Xbox Series port will arrive.

Should you be fortunate enough to have a PC that’s ready to handle the staggering 17,000 different endings to Baldur’s Gate 3, you can download some DLC for free. That’s right, you can get a lot of shiny new customisation rewards without spending a lot of money – all it’ll cost is some viewing time.
If you frequent Twitch a lot, you’re about to reap the benefits; simply clock up two or more hours of watching Baldur’s Gate 3 being streamed and you can access those sweet, sweet rewards. Now there’s even more of an excuse to use the sick note Larian’s PR team shared online.
While there’s no earlier release date in sight for PlayStation players, at least you can all come together and voice your disappointment online, and seek solace in the warm embrace of others' dismay.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available to play on PC, and will be released on the PS5 on 6 September.
