Minecraft is at the forefront of many minds right now, though not for the right reasons, so it’s nice that this official announcement has pulled attention away from a certain upcoming cinematic disaster.
Ever since the first trailer for the Minecraft film dropped, we’ve all wished we could unsee the horrors of it.
That trailer is a curse on the eyes, and has done a grave disservice to our boy Steve.

Although we can’t escape the image of that one sheep forever burnt into our minds, we can look to happier, more joyous news about the game.
On Minecraft’s Twitter account, a brief overview for the future of the popular sandbox title has been shared.
Here are the intended updates/changes:
- Releasing multiple free game drops throughout the year
- Changing format for Minecraft Live, and retiring the mob vote
- Bringing a native version of Minecraft to PlayStation 5
Each tidbit of news is exciting, but it’s the native version for the PlayStation 5 that has grabbed fans’ attention.

“Native version for PS5 is all we need! “ declared @PvntoEXE upon seeing the announcement.
Sorry, but we might as well frighten ourselves once more by watching the Minecraft movie trailer
Even if you don’t agree with that sentiment, the fact that we’re discussing the future of Minecraft is one of those pinch me moments for a lot of gamers who remember its humble beginnings.

“It’s amazing to see how far this game has come!! I originally purchased this game in Beta for $20 on my computer :) an old YouTuber by the name Kevin1811 put me on with it...” shared @wwwcryptocom.
Few expected the game to reach its 15th birthday, yet here we are, savouring every moment we get to spend with these colourful blocks (minus the film).
As the information shared by Mojang Studios is a roadmap for the future, there’s no set dates of when these changes will be implemented; at least not yet anyway.
Still, while there’s not specific dates, we can all rest easy knowing that the legacy of Minecraft continues to go from strength to strength.
