A PlayStation 5 remake of Horizon Zero Dawn is still on the, um, horizon, and fans of the series have differing opinions on exactly how they want it to turn out.
As initially reported by MP1ST’s James Lara and later corroborated by VGC’s Andy Robinson way back in October 2022, it’s rumoured that a remake of the 2017 title Horizon Zero Dawn is currently being worked on for the PS5.
As the source that MP1ST heard this rumour from stated, the remake will “feature an improved lighting system (ambient occlusion, and such), overhauled textures. and better animations, with new character models to match those found in the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West”.

LEGO Horizon Adventures lands later this year.
It’s also unclear if this project is a remake or remaster, although given the updated graphical improvements in the PC release of Horizon Zero Dawn and how much time has passed in between its 2017 release and now, it’s probably safe to assume it would be the former.
The source also told them that a multiplayer game based on the Horizon IP is also in the works, although details regarding the exact nature of this game were sparse.

The problem is, fans of the series can’t quite seem to agree on exactly what changes they’d want to see in a remake of the original title.
In a recent Reddit post, one person posed the question, “Can they remake HZD with the game mechanics of HFW?”
One commenter replied saying, “I am sure some things would be redone to match HFW, but just adding the Stash would be amazing.
But then another replied with, “Honestly, I wish the reverse, lol. I kinda hate the gameplay changes to #2, and wish it were more like #1.”

One user agreed, stating “There is some QoL stuff that I’d like to have in HZD but as far as core gameplay mechanics, I much prefer HZD.”
Finally, another commenter landed somewhere in between in their reply.
“It's interesting to see opinions diverge like that,” they said, “While I appreciate some things that were introduced in HFW, overall I enjoyed HZD's gameplay more because it nailed the level of complexity of the different gameplay systems. HFW overdid it in some ways.”
Seems an awful lot like developer Guerrilla Games has the work cut out for them if they want to appeal to everyone in the fan base, although at this point that’s starting to seem impossible.
