Horizon Zero Dawn dawn fans divided over recasting Lance Reddick in Horizon 3

Horizon Zero Dawn dawn fans divided over recasting Lance Reddick in Horizon 3

Was this the right choice?

With LEGO Horizon Adventures set to be released in just a couple of weeks, Guerrilla Games has confirmed that it has recast the late Lance Reddick in his much-loved role.

As a spin-off to the Horizon series by Guerrilla Games, LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to take Aloy into the block-building world where she and fellow characters and machines will be transformed into LEGO.

Set to launch on 14 November, there are just a few days to go until release but a recent comment from senior world artist Lucas Bolt has revealed that an important character has been recast.

In both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy’s ally Sylens was played by the late Lance Reddick who unfortunately passed away in March 2023.

However, with the team wanting the deuteragonist to return, the only option was to recast and in an interview with IGN, Bolt revealed that Sylens’ new actor will be announced soon.

"Lance Reddick tragically passed away in 2023, and he is deeply missed within Guerrilla and our community," Bolt explained.

"He wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.

The character of Sylens does appear in LEGO Horizon Adventures, and we will introduce the new actor at a later date.”

The news soon took to social media and left fans feeling divided over the choice to recast such an iconic actor and his role.

Over on r/PS5, one user wondered if Guerrilla would still use Reddick’s face but with a different voice or do a total visual recast too.

However, a fellow user was unsure.

“They have the opportunity to find a very close voice match and continue to use his likeness for visual continuity, but is that disrespectful to Reddick?” They wondered.

“What would his family think about that? Do we want to open the "resurrect dead actor likenesses for game characters" Pandora's box?”

What followed was a discussion into instances of this happening in the past.

“Bungie used Keith David to take over for Reddick in Destiny and while not perfect, he did an excellent job given the circumstances,” another comment read.

It remains to be seen how fans receive Sylens’ new casting but it is safe to say that Reddick will be missed in the much-loved role.
