As much as it never surprises any of us here that fans get upset over the weirdest things, it always disappoints us. Mainly because we foolishly expect more from them. Case in point are fans absolutely livid over the censorship of 15 year old Tifa.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an exceptional game – our very own Dan Lipscombe described it as a “triumphant evolution” – yet some fans have found ways to be annoyed. At first it was because of accessibility features that highlighted in yellow where players should go; a feature plenty of games now have.
If you haven't already watched the sublime Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer, you need to correct that mistake immediately
Now it’s over the censorship of a Final Fantasy character who is 15 years old during the scene in question. I really want to emphasise that before fans message me to explain that Tifa is 20 in FFVII Remake and Rebirth.

During a flashback sequence, Fifa’s outfit in FFVII Remake has been updated to match what she’s wearing in Rebirth; she now wears a sports bra crop top rather than something much more revealing. And for some reason – let’s be honest, it’s for very gross reasons – fans are upset.
As Alex Donaldson on Twitter posted, “She's 15 in this sequence, lads, this isn't the hill to die on.” However, many are willing to die on that hill. We won’t delve into the plethora of comments about this change because, quite honestly, they get grim extremely fast – the main takeaway is that fans are furious over a teenage girl dressed in a way they can’t easily ogle.
Apparently, having already seen Tifa in a swimsuit that sent the internet into overdrive isn’t enough. We get it, Tifa is an attractive character, but there’s a time and a place to moan about outfits, and moaning about a 15 year old’s attire really isn’t it.

Let’s allow Tifa to be herself, in her sports bra, and enjoy the game for the right reasons: it’s bloody incredible. For those wanting to play, FFVII Rebirth will launch on 29 Feb and will be available on PlayStation 5 only.
