It seems there will soon be a new kid on the block in the Soulslike genre with Unending Dawn coming from Chinese studio Parcae’s Fate.
On the surface, the game is inspired by anime and eastern RPGs such as Genshin Impact but when you watch the game’s trailer play out, there’s a lot of Sekiro to be seen in the swordplay and poise system.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice mastered the poise system to keep players on their toes.
Without knowing too much about the story, it seems the world of Unending Dawn is as bleak as its Soulslike forebears. There are plenty of hulking monsters, grotesque enemies, and a huge land to explore, much like Elden Ring.

Of course, the visual style of the game is unexpected for this genre which usually finds its visuals in dark, medieval fantasy trappings rather than colourful anime waifus. However, there is still plenty of darkness in the trailer as we see the heroine have her limbs ripped off.
Without knowing too much about the game beyond what we see on YouTube, it’s clear that we’re not dealing with a traditional hack-and-slash here. The combat is fast-paced and frenetic, but the obvious parry system is going to force players to think tactically as they tackle some of the giant bosses.
Whether we see any other tropes from the Soulslike genre is hard to say. Will we see the obvious, like bonfires, upgrading of skills, and having to retread your path to pick up resources after death?
One thing is certain, Unending Dawn will appeal to a wide variety of fans when it comes to PlayStation 5 soon. The game seems to be checking off several features from the list to draw in leagues of fans, from the appealing visuals to the difficult combat.
