With the recent introduction of Sony Pictures Core on PlayStation consoles, PlayStation Plus premium tier subscribers were granted access to a select library of around 100 films, available to stream. Some subscribers are now slamming the new feature, calling it “false advertising”.
The Sony Pictures Core catalogue is just one new feature introduced for premium tier PlayStation Plus subscribers, alongside the addition of cloud streaming. Anyone can sign up to Sony Pictures Core for free but it’s essentially a storefront. You can rent and purchase films but if you’re a premium PS Plus subscriber, you’ll gain instant access to a library of over 100 films to watch which will update on occasion. One user didn’t look into exactly what films they’d be receiving though, slamming the line-up as “garbage” and “false advertising”.
Take a look at PS Plus’ new cloud streaming feature below.
Reddit user ShadoHazard wrote, “Sony Pictures Core is such false advertising. I’ve spent the past week trying to figure out my issue with why I wasn’t able to sign into the app. Just got that sorted a moment ago and I finally get to watch the movies I upgraded my PS+ for. [...] Literally all the movies on the app’s background and marketing are not included? All we get are old B-list movies? I just paid for premium … for garbage? I was looking forward to watching Spider-Verse once I sorted out my issue. Now I finally do and I don’t even get that?”

“It screams false advertising with their new, ‘streaming service that’s included in PS+ premium’ and the background is a load of triple-A movies. I guess it pays to read the fine print lol. What a joke,” they continued. It’s true that Sony Pictures Core displays Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse, 65, and Ghostbusters Afterlife in most of its advertising. It doesn’t state they’re available in the PS Plus catalogue though, instead describing the line-up as consisting of “up to 100 movies”, listing Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation as examples - dependent on your territory.
A comprehensive list was not made available by Sony, so you can see why some people were misled into thinking certain titles would be included on the service. TrueTrophies has since compiled a list and I’ve got to say, the UK offerings are far stronger than the US line-up. I guess the important lesson to be learnt here is do your research before you buy or upgrade.
