Ever wonder what it’d be like if the story of Jesus Christ had a different ending? Someone obviously did, as a new game puts you in the place of a holy inquisitor in a damned world.

Check out the story trailer for The Inquisitor below!

The Inquisitor is an upcoming RPG that’ll be available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, taking place in an alternate timeline where Jesus’ crucifixion had a very different ending. In this timeline, Jesus broke free of his cross and swore vengeance instead of forgiveness, leading to a drastic change in history.

Taking place many, many years later, you play as Mordimer Madderdin, a servant of God on a mission to end sin, corruption and crime, by any means necessary. It gives off major Witcher vibes, as the game will involve a bit of detective work, combat and the ability to judge a situation, and whether it’s worth being merciful or not.

The game’s publisher, Kalypso Media, recently shared a gameplay trailer on YouTube showcasing some truly gorgeous graphics, as well as a quick look at the history and story featured in the game, which will reportedly be a major part of the narrative.

One commenter loved the bizarro-world idea, saying “Loving the alternative Jesus story. Looking forward to this!

While you won’t be fighting monsters and demons (possibly) like Geralt of Rivia, it sounds like the game will be just as bloody, as there will be plenty of inhabitants who’ve “lost their way” and need some holy retribution.

The Inquisitor will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC later this year.
