Steam users can get their hands on a stunning new game inspired by the worlds of Mario and Crash Bandicoot right now, no subscription needed.
PC gamers have all the luck when it comes to free games, as I'm sure you know. While PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass certainly have libraries that aren't to be sniffed at, most of the free offerings are only really free if you pay a monthly free. Not ideal. Over on Steam, meanwhile, there are new free games every damn day. I'm not jealous at all.
One game I'm incredibly keen to check out as soon as possible is a gorgeous new racer from Pixel Edge Games. The Karters 2: Turbo Charged - Prologue is a free demo that'll let you get to grips with this chaotic kart racer.

The inspirations are clear, obviously. Pixel Edge Games has combined the best elements of Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing to create something that pays tribute to what came before while also bringing in a ton of new features. It might not feature familiar faces from famous games, but it looks incredibly slick and tons of fun.
The prologue promises 'hours' of gameplay to give you a taste of what's to come. The full game will feature split-screen multiplayer (a must for a game like this), plus a single-player campaign with a ton of challenges, a time trial mode. duels, a global leaderboard, and so much more.
I can't stand realistic racing games, but I adore a good kart racer - and this genuinely looks like it could be one of the best in a long while. And for the low price of nothing at all, you can go and get your hands on it right now. So stop reading this and go check out The Karters 2, you fool.
