After years of patiently waiting, Bethesda’s highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Starfield arrived in September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Did Starfield live up to all the years of hype? That depends on the individual. For some, Starfield was one of the best games of 2023 and for others, it was a bit meh. On one hand, it’s fun travelling the galaxy partaking in missions, making discoveries, and meeting NPCs. However, some could argue that space exploration isn't as limitless as we'd hoped while randomised planets feel a little bland. Though a Bethesda rep might think otherwise to those who may dare to label Starfield as boring.

Over time, with a series of content updates from Bethesda, the Starfield experience will hopefully improve for those who may have felt let down by its pre-launch hype. Perhaps we might get more activity and freedom in outer space and maybe, we might one day have vehicles to travel on barren planets. Whatever you may or may not think of Starfield, there is still a great game in there somewhere, in my opinion.

Bethesda is brimming with a vibrant modding community as we have seen with the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, and with a bit of luck, Starfield will be no exception. That being said, some of the most popular Bethesda modders have already given up on Starfield. Thankfully, there is at least one active Starfield modder that aims to make the sci-fi RPG a better experience for us all. Well, as long as you play it on PC.
As reported by PC Gamer, a devoted modder aims to bring pilotable mechs to Starfield. How cool would that be? The modder in question is Jared Kohr and the process of test piloting in-game mechs has already begun with the mech model being provided by m150.
Judging by the gameplay footage uploaded to Jared Kohr’s YouTube channel, the mech looks like a natural fit in Starfield. So much so, that it makes me wonder why Bethesda never included this feature in the game to begin with. The mech even has functional weapons.

If Bethesda decides not to include vehicles in the sci-fi RPG, this is evidence that mechs at least have a place in the game. After all, they do exist within it but as a museum piece. Whether Bethesda will bring mechs or other land vehicles to Starfield officially, remains to be seen. That being said, at least we can count on the talented modders to breathe new life into the games we love.
It’s worth keeping in mind that this mod is in its early days of development, so there is a lot of work still to be done, but hopefully it will be worth the wait. Starfield is out now on PC and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
