Multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy is a controversial topic.

Fortuitously for those with a PC, if you long for multiplayer capabilities, there’s a mod titled ‘HogWarp - Multiplayer’.
Created by The Together Team, this NexusMods project is a “framework” that helps “server developers to host their own customised experience”.
Rewrite the magic of Hogwarts Legacy with friends
Basically, it provides the “tools” to better facilitate multiplayer gameplay in an “otherwise strictly single-player game”.

Harry Potter fans that have watched the guide video on YouTube have praised its creator for their hard work.
“Thanks for doing this! Sure, it's not full story co-op or anything, but it's a good time if you want to hang out with friends and explore the game world,” posted @Allen2142.
This gamer brings up a valid point: you can frolic with your friends, but it’s inadvisable to use this mod while fulfilling actual quests.
According to @InternalErrorX, “Doing quests is not recommended as nothing will sync and some parts may become bugged or crash the game.”

They went onto to explain, “HogWarp is a multiplayer framework intended as a sandbox for roleplay, exploration with friends, and other custom activities.”
Some may think this a downside to such a creation, however, it could be argued that it allows the best of both worlds.
Taking into account how divisive multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy is, surely that’s the best outcome?
Although this mod was created last year, it was recently updated, thus ensuring that your experience is a smooth(er) one.

No, seriously, some players think it’s that scary.
