It’s a swell time to be a Final Fantasy fan. I’m imagining many of you will have, by now, rolled credits on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but you don’t have to wait too long to get your next franchise fix.
Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion is set to land on 2 July, with Early Access opening on 28 June. Yes, that’s one week after Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. A busy time for enormous expansions.
As for what we know about Dawntrail, FFXIV’s level cap is set to rise to 100, Viper and Pictomancer are being added as playable jobs, while female Hrothgar’s is a new playable race.

As for the story, that’s due to set us up on a brand new adventure after previous expansion, Endwalker, drew the Zodiark and Hydaelyn story to a close.
The consequence of Final Fantasy XIV’s ever-expanding nature is that it demands more and more of your console or computer with each subsequent supplementary release.
It just so happens that Square Enix has released a very handy tool to address this though.
For those of you playing Final Fantasy XIV on PC, you can now download an official benchmark test to see if your PC is capable of running Dawntrail.

Take a look at the official benchmark test trailer in action below.
The software uses certain maps and playable characters to run a test on your PC, granting it a score which represents its performance.
The software also allows you to sample the game’s character creator with any characters made carried over when Dawntrail releases in full. This includes the new female Hrothgar race.

Just to give you an idea of why you might need to run the test, unlike previous expansions, Dawntrail is the first to massively upgrade Final Fantasy XIV’s graphics.
As reported by TweakTown, this includes improved textures, shadow resolution, and material qualities.
If your PC scores 15,000 or above, you should experience “extremely high performance” when Dawntrail releases.
If you score between 4,000 and 5,999, expect a “standard performance”.

The tool is totally free and available to download now.
