Fallout is not only one of the most popular franchises in Bethesda’s library but it’s also one of the biggest video game properties of all time and its popularity looks to have no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Following the recent release and success of the Fallout live-action series on Prime Video, the franchise has reached new heights welcoming a new legion of fans that may not have initially heard of the Bethesda RPG. Now, games in the series such as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 have benefited from a huge player surge in recent days.

In 2022, Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 will benefit from a free new-gen upgrade which will boast improved visuals and performance, and it will be released in 2023. However, that free upgrade was delayed but this month Bethesda announced that the upgrade will finally arrive on 25 April 2024.

So with the Fallout 4 new-gen upgrade just days away, surely that would be great news for all vault dwellers, right? Well, that is seemingly not the case especially when it comes to Fallout’s talented modding community with the likes of the highly anticipated Fallout: London being delayed following Bethesda's recent upgrade announcement.
Whenever a new update or upgrade arrives for any game supported by mods, it can result in unforeseen issues which results in modders going hard at work to fix surprise bugs and glitches. That is certainly the case with Fallout: London, a mod for Fallout 4 that promises to be as big as any official expansion, if not bigger.
So when Bethesda announced that we’re finally being treated to the free new-gen upgrade this month, it meant that Fallout: London had to be delayed and the mod developers are understandably, not happy.
When speaking to the BBC, the project lead on Fallout: London says that the mod teams feel “blindsided” due to the lack of communication from Bethesda with the sudden release date announcement of the upgrade. "So that has, for lack of a better term, sort of screwed us over, somewhat,” said Dean Carter.

To put things in perspective, Fallout: London has been in development for around four years, and has already suffered several delays. Its most recent release date was 23 April 2024, that was until Bethesda announced earlier this month that the free upgrade is now releasing on 25 April, leaving the modders no time to make the necessary updates for the expansion-sized mod.
No new release date has been announced for Fallout: London but Dean Carter has asked fans to be patient while the modders work on making the necessary adjustments to compensate for the Fallout 4 new-gen upgrade.
Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also available to Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers at no extra cost.
