For better or worse, the Pokémon series has evolved into a different beast on the Nintendo Switch than it once was many years ago but this fan-made game is a dream come true.
When the Pokémon series made its debut on the original Nintendo Game Boy in 1996, it was a simple time but yet even back then, the series had a surprising amount of depth despite technical restrictions with the likes of Pokémon Red and Green. As the years rolled on, the series evolved into a massive open-world with the last entry being Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which recently benefited from free DLC that gamers can claim right now.

Unfortunately, the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was plagued with bugs to the dismay of disgruntled fans for obvious reasons. The woes of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have triggered memories of simpler times of yesteryear, and fans are hoping to see some of the classic Pokémon Game Boy games included in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion one day.

That being said, fans will also be hoping that Pokémon Legends Z-A will knock it out of the park and from the perspective of developer Game Freak, it will be hoping that it can claim some of its fans back that have turned to the recent multiplayer sensation, Palworld. While we wait for the arrival of Pokémon Legends Z-A, this fan-made game is a dream for fans.
The game in question is the indie title Pokémon Legends Mew, created by Pablo Hijano. Pokémon Legends Mew is a free charming title inspired by the Game Boy classics, in particular those that were released on the Game Boy Color. Pokémon Legends Mew takes place in an ancient Kanto region and you play as a young trainer in Vermilion Village.
Pablo Hijano recently shared an update for Pokémon Legends Mew revealing some new gameplay and it looks awesome. However, Hijano has stated that the game is still a work in progress but we can’t wait to see the full game one day. You can keep updated with the development progress of Pokémon Legends Mew via Pablo Hijano’s Twitter account.

Hopefully, the Nintendo lawyers won't be taking down this project, but you never truly know, especially when this indie game is using the Pokémon name in its title as well as creatures, likenesses, music and more. If that does become an issue, fingers crossed a few simple changes might avoid Nintendo’s wrath.
