Pokémon fans heartbroken over cancelled game, and we can see why

We've caught the big sad

Learning what could have been if life had worked out differently is a different kind of pain.

It lingers long after you accept you can’t change anything.

Pokémon fans have recently been dealing with such discomfort after discovering that Pocket Monsters RPG was cancelled.

This title, originally designed for the Nintendo 64DD, was scrapped during development.

Though we’ve never seen what it looked like, fans have attempted to recreate the RPG to give us an idea of what was lost.

“I remember when I got my N64 I was dreaming of a 3D Pokémon game like this, I was very disappointed we never got a game like this,” lamented Redditor iZubi.

Again, we must emphasise that the images you see are fan-made and not official Nintendo ones.

While it’s sad to think that we were robbed of such an experience, it does make sense why it was cancelled.

“They were barely able to fit all the Pokémon in Pokémon Stadium, let alone having multiple 3D environments and other NPCs,” footfoe explained.

Even though their reasoning makes sense, fans can’t help but keep thinking about what it would have been like to grow up with a Pokémon adventure like this.

User eadrik said, “I remember getting Ocarina of Time and thought how cool [it would be] if they made a Pokémon Game like this, I think this is exactly how I imagined it would look like. Very cool to see.”

It doesn’t matter how many new games have been released since then that give us that RPG kick, we’ll forever remember the one we never got to play.

Pokémon hasn’t suffered for making the decision to cancel this RPG from a bygone age, however, we now have to live with the burden of knowing what we lost.
