Nintendo has fans desperate to nab a Nintendo Switch 2 on its release date setting alarms for a very specific time on a very specific day so they can ensure that they get a pre-order spot.
A couple of days ago, Nintendo announced that, as several leakers had revealed weeks prior, a Nintendo Direct will be taking place in just under two months on April 2.
Although the Direct only specifies that it’ll be “offering a closer look” at Nintendo’s upcoming console, the timing of the event has set alarm bells ringing for a lot of fans.

Over in a thread on the subreddit r/NintendoSwitch discussing the announcement, a lot of commenters seem convinced that the time and date of the Direct implies that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will go live as soon as it concludes.
“Oh yeah I forgot preorders will probably go up right after. Well, looks like I'm not getting much done at work starting at 9 am that day,” commented user The330Strangla.
“I’m wondering if pre orders will go live straight after and so they are saying it now as retailers might start getting pre order details soon,” replied user noggs891.
I personally think that there’s a good chance they’re right too, specifically because the Direct starts at 6 AM PDT.

6 AM PDT actually translates into 11 PM in Japan, which means that the Direct will likely conclude around 7 AM in parts of the States and at roughly midnight in parts of Asia.
That’s an oddly perfect time for retailers to suddenly open up pre-orders for the console, as it will either be just before millions of people go to work in America or just before people millions of people go to bed in Asia.
We’ll have to wait a couple of months for exact confirmation, but I think this Direct might be worth waking up early for if you really are desperate to snag a Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day.
