The Nintendo Switch 2, or whatever it’s going to be called, is being compared to a Steam Deck in latest spec reports.
While Nintendo is yet to officially reveal its next major console, we all know one is on the way. It’s just a case of when and how powerful it will be.

Nintendo has never strived to compete with the likes of Xbox or PlayStation in terms of power, though I think we can all agree the next console needs to be quite a substantial step up from the Nintendo Switch for it to be worth it.

Fortunately, it sounds like the next console will be exactly that, and it’s even being compared to Valve’s Steam Deck as well.
YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead recently made a video talking about the next Nintendo console, saying they’ve heard rumours of it being slightly less powerful than Valve’s handheld device.
It’s said to have a lower framerate but a higher resolution, and will apparently run better when docked. The Nintendo Switch has a barely noticeable difference between the docked and handheld mode, so it seems the next console will be better suited to those who like playing on a TV or monitor display.
Other leaked info about the Nintendo Switch 2 suggests it’ll not only be backward compatible with Nintendo Switch titles, but also improve them in similar ways to the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 improving Xbox One and PS4 games.

Whether all of this is true or not remains to be seen, though they do sound like no-brainer features that the next-gen console needs to have to be better than its predecessor.
At the time of writing, there’s still no indication of when the next Nintendo console will be unveiled, though it’s speculated an announcement is due towards the end of the year.
