Nintendo Switch 2's first games officially confirmed

Nintendo Switch 2's first games officially confirmed

Rejoice in video game preservation

The Nintendo Switch 2 still hasnt been officially revealed by the giant Japanese developer but already we have good news to share.

Earlier in the year, Nintendo announced the Switch 2 (not its confirmed name) in typical fashion. However, they never revealed any specifications, what games it will launch with or when it will be released.

That being said, a recent investor call has suggested that the Nintendo Switch successor should be released next year but exactly when is unclear at this time. We’ll just have to wait and see if those details eventually come to fruition.

This week, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced in a statement posted on social media that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with current generation games. This once again, announcing major news in typical Nintendo fashion.

Nonetheless, the Nintendo Switch 2 being backwards compatible will be music to gamers' ears because it not only means that we can carry on playing where we left off on the new console but there might even be a chance that those games will have an increased resolution and framerate.

Of course at this time, whether current-gen Switch games have a boost on the next console is purely speculation but it’s still a welcome and likely prospect.

By proxy, the Switch 2 being backwards compatible also confirms the first playable games on the console, given that the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Odyssey and more are already available.

Hopefully, we’ll learn additional details, especially with Furukawa saying “Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more on the Nintendo Switch successor.
