Animal Crossing: New Horizons may have unfortunately been left in the dust by Nintendo but its spiritual successor is reported to be landing on the Nintendo Switch in just a few months time.
First released in 2020 and helping a lot of us during COVID-19, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the fifth mainline entry in the long-running Animal Crossing series by Nintendo.

Despite going on to release the Happy Home Paradise DLC in November 2021, it is evidently clear that Nintendo has no future plans for New Horizons which has left fans devastated.

However, there may be an upcoming alternative: Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
The adorable life sim featuring a cast of Sanrio characters was first released for iOS via Apple Arcade in 2023. However, now a year on, developer Sunblink and Sanrio itself have announced that the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and PC in early 2025.
Following that, it will also head to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 soon after.
Much like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in Hello Kitty Island Adventure players will be able to design their character, explore their island, collect materials, craft, fish and get to know the other residents. However, it has been said that Kitty Island has a lot more emphasis on exploration as opposed to busting your a** trying to make money for Tom Nook.

Since its release in 2023, it has already gone on to welcome two major updates including a mermaid-inspired update in May and the Merry Meadow update in February.
This just goes to show that, unlike New Horizons, Hello Kitty Island Adventure seemingly has longevity when it comes to regular updates and content.
With just a few months to go until it arrives on the Nintendo Switch, this will be the perfect cosy life sim to fill that Animal Crossing sized hole in your heart.
