I’m thrilled for everyone who is hyped by the recent reveal of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream but I’m going to be honest, I was disappointed that it wasn’t a follow-up to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Surely, it’s made by the save developer? Some of those assets in the trailer look all too familiar, which is why I first assumed it was a New Horizons successor for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Perhaps that could still be revealed during tomorrow’s Nintendo Switch 2 direct, but would Nintendo launch two similar games within quick succession?

I feel a tad dubious on that one, which is why I’m prepping for the possibility that it’s going to be a long while before a new Animal Crossing instalment drops.
Thankfully, there are many great spiritual successors or substitutes out there.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure, for example, is fantastic, and I’m super hyped for Floatopia which is due out this year.
One title that’s just entered early access though is the delightful Galactic Getaway which has just entered early access on Steam.

You can view the game’s trailer below.
I don’t need to point out to you why this one’s perfect for Animal Crossing: New Horizon fans.
There’s a distinct aesthetic similarity and, of course, you’ll get to decorate your dream home and participate in cosy activities like farming.

Galactic Getaway also allows you to partake in minigames too and best of all, it’s a multiplayer sim so you can play those games with your IRL friends.
The game, as I said, is in early access so there’s plenty more in the pipeline including planned controller support and various language localisations.
“Explore an uncharted planet with friends, discover adorable creatures, and craft your dream homes as you transform the world into a cozy paradise in this wholesome multiplayer life-sim,” the synopsis teases.
“Selected by GG Enterprises - a company known for exploring and researching distant planets - you’ve been tasked with creating a vibrant community in this new world. Befriend cute and quirky creatures who gather rare resources to craft furniture, decorations, and houses, all while unlocking new technologies.”

An introductory offer is currently running until 10 April where you can pick the game up for £11.51, a 10% discount on the usual £12.79 price tag.
It’ll be interesting to see how Galactic Getaway develops as it progresses through its early access period.
