This was unbelievable news for fans, so much so that most of them cried with joy that there was finally official news, not just unsubstantiated rumours or leaks.
It also gave fans hope for the future, as Rockstar releasing a trailer in December suggests the release date could be closer than we think. Speculation is currently pointing to a Spring 2025 release, though it could also arrive in late 2024 depending on its current development progress.
Unfortunately, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive might have just thrown a spanner into the works, as a recent statement suggests Grand Theft Auto VI could be delayed.
The source was shared on Reddit by wonderingandthinking, and apparently comes from an earnings call where it was said the company is expecting to have made “shy of 8 billion in fiscal 25,” which will likely only be possible through the sales of GTA VI.

Whether this means a late 2025 release, or possibly leaning slightly in 2026 is unknown, but it’s not sounding like it’ll release in 2024 as many hoped.
Fans shared their theories in the comments, with many confident that the latest the game will launch will be mid-2025 in the worst-case scenario.
One said: “It’s either going to be late 2024 with a delay to early 2025 or early 2025 with a delay to mid 2025.”
Another added: “A Rockstar game without at least 3 delays is considered a dull affair.”

Yet another said: “2024 was always unlikely. Red Dead Redemption 2 had its first teaser trailer in 2016 and was released in 2018.”
All we can do now is patiently wait for December to roll around so we can get a trailer, and hope a release date is shared.
