The upcoming Soulslike The Relic: First Guardian just released its latest trailer, and it’s very clear that the developers are taking inspiration from two specific sources; The Witcher and Elden Ring.
The magic system and the character design definitely has some The Witcher vibes to it, but the open-world focused combat is clearly taking some cues from Elden Ring - although it’s probably best you watch the latest trailer for the game instead of simply taking my word for it.
Can it live up to the majesty of Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree though?
A Steam page for the game also just appeared following the trailer, and it gives us a little more insight into exactly what we can expect.

It describes itself as an “action RPG” where players can “embark on a heroic adventure to save the world in the dark as the last guardian”, which if I’m being completely honest sounds like the most generic description for a game I’ve ever heard.
Thankfully there’s a little more info on its combat, as it specifies that players can “choose from five different types of weapon options, of which form the basis of the action. Each weapon has its unique skills which can be changed according to your play style.”
The Relic: First Guardian is the first game from developers Project Cloud Game, but it’s certainly not the first game from their publisher Perp Games.
The publisher is probably best known for Slender: The Arrival VR (mostly because folks on YouTube loved playing it for content) and another Soulslike called Bleak Faith: Forsaken.

Some of you might remember Bleak Faith: Forsaken due to the fact it managed to generate quite a bit of buzz prior to its release, for some good and some bad reasons.
It released to generally mixed reviews, but in the process the team behind it was accused of stealing some of its assets from other games - including Elden Ring.
The game is slated for release sometime in 2025, and it’ll be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X and PC.
