Now I’m aware that might be a tough pill to swallow, given how Ezio Auditore is essentially the poster child for the Assassin’s Creed series with several “peak” games under his belt. He’s overwhelmingly popular, sometimes considered to be one of the greatest video game characters of all time, with none coming close to that title until now.

Recently a fan of the series, Luck_Shot on Reddit, wanted to know if “Origins and Odyssey are as tedious and repetitive as Valhalla.” Collectively named the RPG trilogy, it’s usually said that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is unfortunately the worst game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is pretty good if not a bit bloated, and Assassin’s Creed Origins is the best.

Responses to the post supported this, though it kicked off another thread stating the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Bayek, is the greatest protagonist in the series.

Abyss_Renzo kicked off the discussion by saying “What makes this game different from Odyssey and Valhalla is that it has an established protagonist, namely Bayek. He’s interested from start to finish.”

Others agreed, and while many called Ezio a close second, if not an equal, many believed Bayek is just that little bit better in terms of personality and story.

One said “Bayek was a great assassin protagonist … Best since Ezio in my opinion.”

Someone else replied, going further by saying “He’s better than Ezio. Altaïr was always my favourite. While I love Ezio, I didn’t think he was as captivating as other fans did clearly.”

Finally someone pointed out what a shame it was that we never saw a continuation of Bayek’s story, saying “If I were to say best protagonist based on first game only, I'd say it's pretty close between Ezio and Bayek with the latter slightly coming out on top … It's criminal that Bayek didn't get a sequel.”

Let’s be honest, the best protagonist isn’t Bayek or Ezio, it’s Edward Kenway and I won’t be told otherwise.
