Baldur’s Gate 3 has garnered a lot of interest, not least of all because you can lay your way through the game in spectacular fashion. But it may surprise you to learn that it was a bug that made companions so horny, rather than your alluring charms.
Yes, let’s spare a moment for all our heated trysts and quick flings because Larian Studios is rectifying the issue as fast as they can.
See what BG3 has to offer beyond sex with its launch trailer!
The shocking revelation came during an interview with TheGamer, when Larian’s Swen Vincke revealed that romances had been bugged from the start. “So... it was a bug. The approval thresholds were too low when we shipped,” they explained. “That's why they [compansions] were so horny in the beginning. It wasn't supposed to be that way. We've fixed it since, at least for some of them. We're still fixing a few of them.”

Larian’s epic RPG has been described as a celebration of kinks and for good reason – not only can you have sex with a bear, but you can also embrace tentacles in a way you’ve never explored before. Nothing is off the table, unless you prefer the floor, and so to hear that the sexual tension was unnaturally high due to a glitch is sad news. Personally, I prefer the idea that everyone is just sexually promiscuous in BG3 – it adds to the atmosphere of it all.
But now that Larian is fixing this oh-so-gloriously-sultry bug, what will happen to those sex speedrunners who managed to get it on in record timing? Will this make future speedruns harder to complete? Will performance issues lead to… well… performance issues? As with the horniness of so many gamers, dedication fuels their desires, and when it comes to a game like BG3, a patch isn’t going to stop people from getting friendly between the digital sheets. It just might take a little longer for that magic to happen. (I’m honestly not sure I can fit any more sex puns in).
Love might be slower to come by in BG3 now, but we doubt many of you will notice. Come on, we’re too invested in the “storytelling” (aka romance and sex) to care if the approval thresholds have moved a little. No doubt when Xbox finally gets the game, which is said to release “between September and November”, more sexcapades will ensue, and we’re looking forward to ‘em!
Fancy falling in love with an orc or bear? Of course you do. Well, you can play Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC now or wait until 6 September for it to launch on PlayStation.
