In truth, Ubisoft updating the game shouldn’t come as a surprise given how popular the 2013 game still is.
But then again, Ubisoft hasn’t always been viewed as a generous publisher, which is likely why nobody expected this free download.

For them, this has been a long time coming.

Now that this has happened in one game, people are wondering if Ubisoft will be so kind as to add Steam achievements to its other titles.

It would be a welcome addition, though we won’t be holding our breath until it happens – we'd like to still be alive by the time Christmas Eve comes around.

We’re happy to see Black Flag still getting free downloads all these years later.
