Sometimes we can look back on our favourite video games through rose-tinted glasses with our minds playing tricks making us believe that those games are better than they were.
To be fair, everything is comparable to its time. For example, we may love 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on PS3. Sure it wasn't a perfect game, but it was still a lot of fun and looked great for its time. However, compared to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which was released in 2016 on PS4, it can be considered as an unfair comparison to make.

Furthermore, Assassin’s Creed which was also released in 2007 was a fantastic game for its time, albeit a bit clunky, though I swear it handles better than Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Regardless, much like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the first AC game would help to lay the foundation for the years to come.

So how do the original Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted hold up today? To be fair, OG Uncharted still holds up well, especially in the version included in The Nathan Drake Collection which is in full HD and has benefitted from some quality-of-life improvements.
Unfortunately, as for the OG Assassin’s Creed, it still hasn't received the remake that it deserves, so we can only experience the game in its original form for better or worse. Admittedly, I played the original AC game a couple of years back to take a trip down memory lane and it was still decent, though my memory certainly remembers it more fondly than it should.
Reddit user Weedlereed shared a clip of some pretty sweet parkouring showcasing that the original game still has it, though I assume a little bit of practice would have gone into this clip before sharing it with the world.

The fellow Redditors were full of praise for the OG that kicked off the series. “Playing this game in 2008 was a really unforgettable experience,” said Dream_Eat3r_. “Free running in AC1 is so good once you get used to controls,” replied A_Swizzzz. “The ability to vault over objects while being chased by dozens of enemies and rushing to find a hiding spot, is satisfyingly fun, in making the parkour faster pace and giving the player more freedom.”
In related news, it is rumoured that the release of Assassin’s Creed Red set in Feudal Japan might be closer than we thought, but it could also be the last of the RPG series.
In the immediate future, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is inspired by the 2007 original, will be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 12 October 2023.
