Joker is one of the most iconic roles in cinema. Regardless of whether you’re a DC superfan or not, most people could probably list a couple of actors who have taken on the character … Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto. It’s a role that has a certain level of infamy.
Well, fan-favourite Nicholas Cage will soon take on an equally popular character - that of Dracula in the upcoming comedy-horror Renfied. Starring Nicholas Hoult as Renfield, Dracula’s unwilling lackey, the film explores the strained relationship between the duo. Fun fact, the film is based on an idea by Robert Kirkman who also wrote The Walking Dead. Fans have noticed though that Cage’s eccentric performance has a certain Joker-esque vibe to it so with a few tweaks on Photoshop, that’s exactly what one fan has dreamt up.
Take a look at the trailer for Renfield below.
Twitter user BossLogic took a screenshot from the film’s trailer, turning Cage into The Joker and Hoult into Robin - and consider me convinced. Cage could pull off an absolutely terrifying version of Joker, one that perhaps would have the eccentricity more often seen in animated takes on the character. Needless to say, it’s something that fans would like to see.
Twitter user SlimDolla_ wrote, “This needs to happen now,” while FanCultureTalks added, “Man, Cage as Joker would be insanity.” Sadly, there are no plans for Cage to take on the role but Phoenix will soon reprise the role in Joker: Folie à Deux. Presumably, Barry Keoghan will also soon make a larger debut after appearing in the post-credits scene of Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Renfield is due to be released in cinemas on 14 April, 2023. If you need something to satiate your appetite in the meantime, many have pointed out that Renfield shares some stark similarities with What We Do In The Shadows - which is an excellent show.
