We’ve already had some very good live-action Jokers in the Batman universe - not you Jared Leto, sit down.
Everyone has their favourite for a variety of reasons. Personally, I love Jack Nicholson’s performance because I grew up watching that film a lot. Ledger is a very close second though.
For a small taste of Gotham and the Batman universe you should be watching The Penguin
Now, a new actor has thrown their (tiny) hat in the ring.

Terrifier actor, David Howard Thornton, believes he’s the perfect choice to step up as the clown prince of crime.
I may be biased, but I adore Thornton as Art the Clown, he’s a very expressive actor and could murder the role with ease.
It’s not like he’s a stranger to The Joker, he has released a monologue from The Killing Joke on his YouTube channel and knows the character inside out.
Fans over on Reddit think he’d be ideal if only James Gunn would hear the pleas.

Speaking in a recent interview the actor remarked, “The Joker is my favorite villain of all time, and that's a character I would love to play myself one day.”
BagZCubed believes he would be a great Joker, saying, “His role as Art the clown is very much a terrifying character, but has some comedic elements in between. Art will ham things up while committing violent acts, which I think fits well with the Joker.”
While Art the Clown is, obviously, a lot more graphic and depraved, he does share some traits with a darker Joker.
Another Redditor can see him “being classic Joker like Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamil.”

Supernova_Soldier sees a very particular Joker for Thornton, “He should be the Joker that cuts his face off and staples it to his face or that freaky Joker from Arkham Asylum run.”
It’s hard to know if this will ever be fulfilled as it depends on the type of Batman we get from James Gunn’s DCU and some truly remarkable young actors could step into the role, but I’m all for it.
