This one’s been spinning round the rumour mill for quite some time. It’s believed that a brand new PlayStation 5 will soon become available but no, I’m not talking about a PS5 Pro. It’s quite literally a redesigned PlayStation 5.
It’s no secret that the PlayStation 5 has had a rocky start to its life cycle due to part shortages. The good news is that Sony boss Jim Ryan has declared that the PS5 shortage is over, but it’s believed that a brand new design could further help with availability. We’re so used to pro and slim models but this one is simply being referred to as a second-gen PS5 and by the sounds of it, it’ll have a vastly different design to the original.

It’s believed that the new PS5 will feature a detachable disc drive. Right now, players can purchase a digital-only PS5 or the regular disc drive version. To state the obvious, this means that Sony has to manufacture two completely different console types. It’s thought that with the new console, Sony will only have to produce one base machine type. Players can then get the detachable disc drive if they wish.

Do bear in my mind that this still hasn’t been confirmed by Sony although it’s an extremely prevalent rumour. Well now, insiders are claiming that the updated console design will be launching very soon. Twitter user Zuby_Tech took to the site to write, “Rumour, new PlayStation 5 model starts mass production in April. An announcement also scheduled in April.”
As a source, Zuby_Tech has reported on upcoming PlayStation news before. Last year, the user teased that Discord integration would be soon coming to PlayStation which seems likely based on fresh intel that leaked this month. Keep your eyes peeled for a major PlayStation update.
