Netflix has just added a shiny new feature that, according to the streaming giant, customers have been asking for for a while now.
As first spotted by Protocol, Netflix users can now rate movies and shows with a new "two-thumbs-up" feature. This is the biggest change in the service's approach to user ratings since 2017, when a thumbs up/thumbs down system replaced the five-star rating. We're really out here living through history.
Protocol reports that this additional thumb is to be used on the shows you really like, presumably so Netflix at least feels slightly bad when it goes ahead and cancels them after one season for reasons it'll never bother to explain.

The two-thumbs-up ultimately won out over subscribers being able to "heart" the best content. Netflix says this is a highly requested feature that fans have been after for a while now. I think most of us would settle for fewer price increases, but that's just me.
“Members have never had as many great entertainment options as they have right now,” Christine Doig-Cardet, director of product innovation and personalization experiences at Netflix, explained to The Verge. "Being able to find the shows and movies that you’re going to love is really important. We want to continue to make Netflix the place where it’s easiest to choose something to watch."
Work on the extra thumb started well over a year ago, and was based on feedback Netflix had received from surveys and interviews. The idea is to give subscribers a way to communicate when they've really connected with a TV show or film, which should also help Netflix make better and more accurate recommendations.
