Whether it’s been the behind the scenes look at the live-action One Piece adaptation’s mind-blowing pirate ship sets, or the first proper trailer for the Cyberpunk 2077 anime series, there’s definitely been something for everyone.
Just in case you were looking at the lineup of announcements so far and felt like things weren’t looking terrifying enough, fear not. Or, fear yes? I don’t know. There’s some spooky stuff afoot, because it’s been confirmed that horror legend Junji Ito is working with Netflix to bring some of his scariest stories to the silver screen.
In case you missed it, Netflix have just revealed the first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - check it out below.
As reported by IGN, the newly announced anime series is titled Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, and it’s set to bring 20 of Ito’s iconic manga stories to life. Ito discussed the series in a video posted to Twitter by the official Netflix Geeked account, and revealed that Tomie, Souichi, and The Hanging Ball are three of the stories which will be adapted (although it’s not currently confirmed which of the Tomie and Souichi stories will be brought to screen). For existing fans of Ito’s work, he also gave some really interesting backstories on the development of some of the characters - check it out below.
“All the talented animators working on this series are putting in their best effort to animate my stories, so I cannot wait to see how they will take my characters and reimagine them in an eerie, new world,” Ito said.
