Netflix has reportedly cancelled a $130 million project that was due to star Scarlett Johansson and Michael Fassbender, among other major names, with sources citing ‘budget issues’ as the likely reason.
What have you been enjoying on Netflix lately? Personally, I’m in the midst of diving into Part Two of You’s fourth season - and let me tell you, there are plenty of plot twists. I’m also very excited for the second season of Shadow and Bone to drop tomorrow. If you're a fan of horror, one new Netflix release is leaving some viewers feeling ‘scarred for life’. In recent days, we also received our first tease for Squid Game’s upcoming second season which is said to be much ‘bigger in scale’. Netflix must be planning on banking on the success of familiar shows like Squid Game, Stranger Things and Wednesday because they’ve cancelled a major upcoming original project.
Also diving into You? Check out this very convincing killer theory.
As reported by Deadline, Netflix has seemingly pulled the plug on an upcoming rom-com from Nancy Meyers. Meyers has directed and written some all-time great rom-coms including The Holiday, It’s Complicated, Father of the Bride, plus childhood classic The Parent Trap. The $130 million project was due to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender.

According to sources close to Deadline, Netflix had settled on a $130 million budget but Meyers was vying for a figure closer to $150 million. After both sides refused to budge, Meyers and Netflix decided to part ways. The film is tentatively titled Paris Paramount and centres around a filmmaking duo who reunite after falling in and out of love on a film set.
Given how high profile of a name Meyers is, it’s possible that the film could be shopped around to other studios. Considering the famous names signed on for the film, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was snapped up elsewhere relatively quickly.
