Metro 2033 is an underrated horror gem and 4A Games’ first-person shooter offers a surprisingly moving post-apocalyptic tale. Set within Moscow’s underground network following a nuclear outbreak, Metro 2033 sees its characters venture out into the world above which is now inhabited by grotesque creatures. You know, the typical post-apocalyptic fare.
What you may not know is that Metro 2033 (and its sequels Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus) are based on the Metro book series by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. Glukhovsky was involved in the adaptation of his novels but the author has now found himself on Russia’s most-wanted list.

Glukhovsky is wanted by Russian officials due to his anti-war stance. Glukhovsky no longer resides in Russia and has publicly criticised the country's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. According to BBC Russia, Glukhovsky’s warrant card simply states that he’s wanted in connection with a criminal case, although it doesn’t specify the details any further. Glukhovsky claims he’s wanted for spreading false information. He was arrested in absentia on 13 May.

In a Telegram message posted to fans, Glukhovsky’s full statement read, “I am accused of discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for a post on Instagram. Article 207.3, part two. As aggravating circumstances - the accusation of the President of the Russian Federation of unleashing a war with Ukraine. I am ready to repeat everything that is said there: ‘Stop the war! Recognise that this is a war against an entire nation and stop it!’”
The Metro video game series is set to continue. 4A Games was merged into Saber Interactive Division who are working on a multiplayer game set within the Metro universe. It’s not yet known if Glukhovsky will continue to be heavily involved in the franchise or whether this latest ruling changes things.
